Greenlody is a series of devices that allow children to capture the colour, temperature and sound of nature to translate them into an incredible musical experience. Greenlody aims to enhance children's well-being by exploring nature around them.
Children's outdoor time has decreased by 90% in the past 30 years. Children are spending more time on screen and there needs to be a balance between the digital and physical world.
To enhance children's well-being, Greenlody is a set of modular products for children to turn natural resources into music by using the products to interact with flowers, weather, animals, etc. Children could also record, edit and upload the music they made by nature to form an understanding of the ecosystem. Greenlody encourages children to explore nature in tangible and intangible ways.
Children's Outdoor Time:
Greenlody started with a discussion with a PhD student in children's education. Children's outdoor time has decreased by 90% in the past 30 years. Children are spending more time on screen and there needs to be a balance between the digital and physical world.
Design With Children:
Greenlody gets inspiration from children's games, handhold tools and natural resources. The design language was inspired by flashlights, periscopes, and gardening tools.
During the development process, I observed how children played games which were invented themselves and generated insights into interactive experiences for Greenlogy. Different levels of prototypes were given to children to play with. It is the children's spontaneous behaviour to disassemble and rebuild the given models and superimpose each other, so the modular design is added to it.
Design with sustainable thinking:
Greenlody is designed to be modular and used recycled materials. It aims to reduce waste in the toy industry and could be repaired or developed for long-term use.
Learned from children, Greenlody uses affordable technologies to create four modes for children to play. They could use colours, temperature, and natural sound to create their music. Children could use Greenlody to interact with flowers, weather, animals, etc.
